About Us

The Northern Michigan Environmental Action Council (NMEAC) is the Grand Traverse region’s oldest and best known grassroots environmental advocacy organization.

Founded in 1980, NMEAC’s mission is a simple one: “Preserving the natural environment through citizen action and education.”

NMEAC’s members are concentrated in the five-county region of Grand Traverse, Antrim, Kalkaska, Benzie, and Leelanau, but we also have many members downstate and outside Michigan who love this beautiful part of the country and want to see it protected.

NMEAC board members come from varied backgrounds, but all bring a fierce love of our region’s environment to their activities with our organization.
