Environmental Events

The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.

These are challenging times. The environment is under assault as never before. We can no longer sit back and watch what unfolds. The urgency of the climate crisis demands that protecting and healing the environment take center stage in our lives. Understanding the urgency, the Board of NMEAC is working to expand our base and create opportunities for everyone to become part of the solution rather than remaining part of the problem.

We are partnering with other local groups and agencies working to mitigate climate change, shut down Line 5, become a 100% renewable energy community, protect our trees and clean water, prevent urban sprawl, and preserve and protect our special region.

    Beach Cleanup

Join the Watershed Center for a beach clean-up!

Meet us at the volleyball courts and help keep our beaches beautiful.

The Watershed Center is a regional leader in beach, shoreline, streambank, and in-water cleanups that help remove litter from our water. We host public cleanup events, help private groups conduct their own cleanups, and partner with other groups in cleanup activities. Starting in 2021, The Watershed Center has partnered with dozens of organizations across the Great Lakes basin for the Great Lakes CleanUP, a coordinated beach and nearshore cleanup project to protect sensitive habitats and drinking water sources in the Great Lakes. Over the past two years, 400 volunteers have removed 3,060 pounds of trash from our Grand Traverse Bay shoreline and nearshore areas.
