This is a critical moment. Right now we're on the verge of Gov. Whitmer deciding if she's going to let Enbridge build a tunnel and keep their pipeline flowing through the Great Lakes for another decade, and through Michigan forever.
Oil and Water Don't Mix is organizing a demonstration and we need your help. Please sign up for a shift on Tuesday, May 28 from 10 AM to 2 PM, the first day of the Mackinac Policy Conference as politicians (including Gov. Whitmer), the press, and members of the Detroit Chamber of Commerce arrive and board the ferry to Mackinac Island.
We need a show of force with a crowd holding NO OIL TUNNEL banners and signs calling out the insanity of building a tunnel for Canadian oil through the Great Lakes. We'll be on the public sidewalk in front of the Shelpler dock in Mackinaw City.
You know that Michigan doesn't need Line 5. The few items it does provide like less than half of the U.P.'s propane can be easily replaced with product that doesn't risk 21% of the world's fresh surface water. A tunnel would take at least 10 years to build and would leave Line 5 pumping through the Straits for another decade. Imagine a 76-year-old pipeline in our water!
Please RSVP here if you are pretty sure you can come. Choose one or more one-hour shifts to join in on this critical protest.
We hope to see you this Tuesday in Mackinaw City!
