EGLE just approved a key permit for Enbridge's Line 5 oil tunnel

West Grand Traverse Bay in SmokeThis week, smoke from Canada's climate-fueled wildfires grew so thick that Grand Traverse Bay disappeared from view. On the same day the smoke arrived, Michigan's Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) set aside more than 70,000 public comments and handed a Canadian oil company another permit for its proposed tunnel — a project with no completion deadline and no guarantee it will ever be built, while the existing 73-year-old Line 5 keeps pumping oil through the Straits of Mackinac every day.

One EGLE decision remains: a permit to discharge millions of gallons of construction wastewater into Lake Michigan, daily. There is still time to be heard.

Please take a few minutes to send your letter to Governor Whitmer and EGLE Director Roos. Tell them: deny the final permit, and keep the promise to shut down Line 5 — for the Great Lakes, and for the generations who will inherit them.
